3D Marine's Owner, Richard "Doc" Doherty's relationship with jet boats began in the early 1980s, designing and building recreational jet boats for himself and local enthuasiasts.

His passion for jet boating saw him spending countless hours developing boats and exploring the infinite river and lake systems of New Zealand's South Island.

A natural progression from recreational to competitive boating resulted in design and development of jet sprint and marathon race boats.

3D Marine Development was initially established as a specialist design and build company specifically aimed at the commercial jet boating industry. This has proved to be a successfull venture and 3D have established a reputation for high quality design and workmanship.

When Doc's brother Paul, joined the company in 2002 a sizeable investment was made in design software and computer technology. This enables the company to produce 3 dimensional virtual models, which can be exactly tailored to each clients requirements. These are then converted into working drawings and computer cut files to ensure accuracy and design integrity.

The first major project using this technology was the 7 boat fleet replacement programme for Shotover Jet in Queenstown.
